Original post:

One of the goals of this blog is to report on Las Vegas startups. Equally important is helping to create new startups.

To that end, we’re hosting a breakout session at the next Las Vegas Jelly on August 18th at The Beat Coffeehouse. The Jelly gets underway at 7:00pm, and we’ll get started around 8:00pm. The theme of the breakout session is “how to pitch an idea”. For those familiar with Startup Weekend, we’re looking for something between the first night’s pitches and the last night’s presentations. For those not familiar with Startup Weekend, we’re looking for something akin to the classic elevator pitch. We’re specifically looking for folks who have noodled on an idea for a while and may have a prototype. So you should already have a pretty good grounding on your market, your competitors, your revenue model, and your breakeven point.

And because the goal is to help people refine their pitch, we’re going to flip things around a bit from a normal pitch. Since this is really “pitch practice” what we’re going to do is have 2 minutes of pitch, followed by 5 minutes of Q & A. The Q & A is designed to help point out things you may not have thought of and/or questions you will usually get from investors.

Please email me at rick -at- vegasstartups.com if you are interested in pitching. We’ve got 2 pitches so far, and are looking for 5-6 total.
