Halsey Minor to Speak at Startup Grind Las Vegas

We try not to cover every event that’s happening in the Las Vegas startup community or this blog would just become a Las Vegas startup event blog. However, every once in a while we like to highlight new events or special events that are happening in Las Vegas. In this case, I just wanted to point out that StartupGrind Las Vegas is back.

Starting at CES in January, Michael Terpin together with Warren Whitlock have committed to holding the Startup Grind Las Vegas events again. They always do an incredible job bringing unique, successful, and interesting people to Las Vegas for the events.

This month on April 18, 2016 at 6 PM, the next Startup Grind Las Vegas will host Halsey Minor from Reality Labs and Voxelus. Here’s a little bit more about Halsey:

About HALSEY MINOR (REALITY LABS, VOXELUS)

An Internet and tech pioneer, Halsey Minor was a key player in the digital publishing revolution. In 1993, he founded CNET Networks, the first comprehensive consumer-facing technology content publisher and one of the most-visited and trusted technology information resources in the world. Halsey led CNET to become a NASDAQ 100 company. CNET was acquired by CBS Corporation in 2008 for $1.8 billion.

In 2015, Minor founded Voxelus, a platform that allows anyone, anywhere to create, share and play virtual reality games and experiences without writing a single line of code. Starting January 2016, Uphold connected to the Voxel blockchain (Voxchain), which means that VOX can be transferred between external VOX wallets and Uphold wallets, as well as being convertible from all other currencies supported by Uphold.

If you’ve never been to a Startup Grind, you should register now and attend. Plus, the event is being held at The Iron Yard (1112 S Casino Center Blvd Las Vegas, 89104), so you can learn about their new Hospitality Accelerator as well.

#VegasTech changes name to #TechVegas

NEWS BULLETIN – APRIL 1, 2016 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Effective immediately, #VegasTech has changed its name to #TechVegas.

“We felt there was too much confusion with the old name and wanted to freshen the brand a bit,” said Rick Duggan. “Instead of being primarily about Vegas, the new brand is primarily about Tech. The old brand started with Vegas, the new brand starts with Tech. Get it?” he continued.

Commented Nigel Tufnel, “It’s just like VegasTech, only it’s TechVegas.”

You may see that this change will take a while to take effect. New letterhead is on order, and a team of graphic designers is working on redesigning the #VegasTech logo. The leading candidate for the redesign moves the word “Tech” before the word “Vegas” but some feel the kerning of that design is not quite up to snuff. In addition, new fonts, such as Comic Sans, are being considered. Stay tuned to this blog for updates when the new logo is revealed.
