Vegas Startup Company LaunchKey Is Acquired by iovation

Many in the community likely know the company LaunchKey. It was originally created at one of the early Las Vegas Startup Weekend events. From there the company was formed and they’ve been one of the hottest startups in the identity and access management (IAM) space ever since. I’ll never forget their “Kill Passwords” sign at SXSW that caught so many people’s attention since password proliferation is a pain for so many of us.

It was recently announced that LaunchKey was acquired by iovation. Here’s a video they put out describing the acquisition.

Congratulations to our friends at LaunchKey. It’s great to see another Vegas Tech startup success.

LaunchKey Raises $3 Million

Who says you can’t get a startup funded in Las Vegas? TechCocktail just announced another $3 million in funding for Vegas Startup company, LaunchKey. Here’s the details of the new investment:

After previously raising $750,000 from the VegasTechFund, Kima Ventures, Ludlow Ventures, and Prolific VC, LaunchKey announces that this venture round was led by Metamorphic Ventures with participation from ENIAC Ventures, Crosslink Capital, Pantera Capital, Rimrock Venture Partners, VegasTechFund, and others. LaunchKey has raised $4 million to date, and will use the new funding to expand its team and bring LaunchKey to market in 2015.

Congrats to the LaunchKey team! Always great to see more Las Vegas startup companies successfully raising money.

Best of luck to LaunchKey as they work to eliminate passwords.

Tech Nevada Honors Winners

Last night was an amazing TBAN event at the beautiful Moon Nightclub at the Palms. There was a huge #vegastech turnout along with a number of long time TBAN members. I’ve been going to TBAN for a lot of years and this is probably the best event that TBAN has hosted yet. Nice work to the team behind TBAN and the Tech Nevada Honors.

CROWDSTART Las Vegas Startup Pitch Event

As I posted about previously, Vegas Tech Fund joined with Crowdfunder for a chance at $500k in Funding. Over 200 tech startup companies applied to the contest over the 7 weeks they were accepting applications. They have narrowed that down to a list of 10 startup companies:

BakeSpace
Chexplore
Counterless
Gabuduck
LaunchKey
NeedTo
PoliticIt
tabeso
Text Me Tix
ThrdPlace

You’ll see a number of Vegas founded companies in there, but also a number of other companies that could relocate to Las Vegas if they won. I think both of those are great results. I have little doubt in my mind that Vegas Tech will need plenty of companies started from within together with a large number of startup company immigrants.

On September 14th these 10 startup companies will have a chance to pitch to a panel of judges including Vegas Startups very own Rick Duggan. You can register for the event here. I expect that this will turn out to be a really great opportunity to connect with a lot of people from the Vegas Tech community.

What do you think of the list of startup companies? Which company is your favorite?
