Great Vegas Tech Events During CES 2017

One of the great advantages of living in Las Vegas is that everyone you could ever want to meet for your business comes to Las Vegas sooner or later. Ok, maybe not everyone, but pretty close. One example of this is the 170,000 people that attend CES each year in Las Vegas. That’s the perfect opportunity for startup companies to meet with people who are in town for the event.

This year is no different and even if you’re not attending the CES conference itself, there are a whole group of events you can attend. Many are hosted by Vegas Tech companies and community organizations. Here’s a look at a few of them you might want to check out:

GO-NV Highway for Innovation – Tuesday Jan 3, 2017 from 2-6 PM at the RedFlint Experience Center

Tech Debut (Formerly Startup Debut) – Tuesday Jan 3, 2017 from 8-11 PM at Mandalay Bay (Press Only, but Tech Companies Can Sponsor if there are still slots available)

Startup Night in Downtown Vegas (Tech.co) – Wednesday Jan 4, 2017 at Gold Spike

CES Smart Cities Happy Hour – Thursday Jan 5, 2017 from 6-10 PM at UNLV Drones and Autonomous Systems Lab

Startup Grind with Robert Scoble and Shel Israel – Saturday Jan 7, 2017 at 6 PM at Private Residence (Henderson)

I’m sure there are plenty more, but those are some of the big ones I know about. We’ll see you all out at various CES events!

Halsey Minor to Speak at Startup Grind Las Vegas

We try not to cover every event that’s happening in the Las Vegas startup community or this blog would just become a Las Vegas startup event blog. However, every once in a while we like to highlight new events or special events that are happening in Las Vegas. In this case, I just wanted to point out that StartupGrind Las Vegas is back.

Starting at CES in January, Michael Terpin together with Warren Whitlock have committed to holding the Startup Grind Las Vegas events again. They always do an incredible job bringing unique, successful, and interesting people to Las Vegas for the events.

This month on April 18, 2016 at 6 PM, the next Startup Grind Las Vegas will host Halsey Minor from Reality Labs and Voxelus. Here’s a little bit more about Halsey:

About HALSEY MINOR (REALITY LABS, VOXELUS)

An Internet and tech pioneer, Halsey Minor was a key player in the digital publishing revolution. In 1993, he founded CNET Networks, the first comprehensive consumer-facing technology content publisher and one of the most-visited and trusted technology information resources in the world. Halsey led CNET to become a NASDAQ 100 company. CNET was acquired by CBS Corporation in 2008 for $1.8 billion.

In 2015, Minor founded Voxelus, a platform that allows anyone, anywhere to create, share and play virtual reality games and experiences without writing a single line of code. Starting January 2016, Uphold connected to the Voxel blockchain (Voxchain), which means that VOX can be transferred between external VOX wallets and Uphold wallets, as well as being convertible from all other currencies supported by Uphold.

If you’ve never been to a Startup Grind, you should register now and attend. Plus, the event is being held at The Iron Yard (1112 S Casino Center Blvd Las Vegas, 89104), so you can learn about their new Hospitality Accelerator as well.

Startup Debut, Startup Grind, and CES Partylist Party During CES

In my previous post on CES, I should have also added in some of the events that Michael Terpin and Social Radius do during CES. Luckily Michael sent me a few details on what they’re doing:

1) Startup Debut – We’re holding our fifth annual Startup Debut at CES media showcase at Cili, with shuttles for the two blocks from Mandalay Bay for out-of-town media (we’re again expecting about 500 media, with all the top-tiers as in prior years, from CNN to NY Times). Once again, we’ve offered half-price for local companies – $1,500. We’re still offering that discount for local companies right up until three hours before the event (tomorrow – Sunday – 7-10 pm) in case there are any local companies decide at the last minute they need to get some press around CES. This year, we are also showcasing six Bitcoin companies, including a Bitcoin ATM. I’m also willing to let a select group of Vegas startup CEOs check out the final hour of the event for free. Contact Michael Terpin if you’re interested: michael@socialradius.com.

2) We’re doing something different this year for our 8th annual CES Partylist Party. Because there were so many events this year on Thursday – and there were several late-night events on Friday after the show ends – we decided to take the early evening slot on Friday, Jan 10th, and combine this months’ Startup Grind with our annual party. As a twist, we’re holding them both at our home in Quail Ridge Estates. Here are the links for Startup Grind (5-7 pm) and for the CES Partylist party. Strict rsvp for both, due to parking restrictions and needing to put people’s names at the gate.

The Startup Grind Comes to Las Vegas

At SXSW I had a chance to talk with Michael Terpin, CEO of SocialRadius, about what was happening in the Vegas Startup world. At that event and then again at SXSW V2V, Michael told me about some events he wanted to bring to Las Vegas. Those discussion have now become a reality as Michael is bringing Startup Grind to Las Vegas. You can find details on the first Starup Grind Las Vegas event below:

Sponsored by The InNEVation Center and Meat, Chix & Wieners, Brock — who is executive chairman of Playsino, a managing director of the Clearstone Global Gaming Fund and a board member of IMI Exchange, Xfire, Five Delta, EverTune and Spicy Horse Games — will be talking with Michael Terpin, CEO of SocialRadius and creator of Marketwire.
