Tell us about your company
While the idea behind Moda stems from my own experience as a client having a difficult time trying to book models last minute for an event, its development is earnestly rooted in all the feedback that we received from all the models and businesses that we work with. Before we started with development, we made it a point to personally listen to all the models that we interviewed. We wanted to know their thoughts and frustrations, to understand their experiences in the current industry and what they like and dislike about their agents and agencies. We were stunned that there were many recurring themes, of payment delays, high commissions taken by their agencies, lack of respect for their privacy and personal space, and worst sexual harassment.  It was through this, that we made it our goal to engineer Moda’s platform to be a solution, one that every model can have to empower themselves to pursue their dreams of being discovered in a safe & reliable platform, all in the palm of their hands.

Tell us about your team
Victor Teruel, CEO
Moda originated from Victor’s experience in business and fashion. He founded Moda, with the intent to simplify the process of hiring talent by allowing models to be hired by clients directly through their mobile device. Victor is a successful entrepreneur whose first business was in promotions as the Co- Founder and Managing Director of REM Nightlife Entertainment LLC. He is also a partner of MAMAM Delifoods, a restaurant corporation in the Philippines.  He has worked for major luxury fashion houses like Fendi- LVMH, Celine- LVMH and Miu Miu- Prada Group with multiple roles in customer relation’s management, sales management, merchandising & operations.

Sagar Raich, President
Sagar cofounded Moda with the intent of allowing anyone to be a model and to be in the promotions and fashion industries. Having worked at large financial firms like Merrill Lynch, having been the Managing Partner of his own successful Corporate Law based Law Firm for many years, and having run many successful businesses, Sagar brings unique finance, law, and business perspectives in running and growing Moda. As a businessman, Sagar’s involvement in conventions, promotions, and marketing will also allow him to successfully handle Moda’s operations and growth.

Bryan Pelayo, Public Relations Coordinator
With his experience in promotions and marketing, Bryan will oversee the public relations for Moda. He is responsible for establishing our initial partnerships with the models and influencers that will represent the company. Bryan has more than six years of experience in promotions, marketing, sales and hospitality with multiple companies such as Marquee day club & nightclub, Encore beach club and Ameripark.

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?
First off, we chose Las Vegas because it was the most ideal city for our platform. Being the convention capital of America, we knew we could really make an impact in the growing need for accessibility and affordability in the industry. Second, our team is composed of Las Vegas locals who have deep roots in this community. From those who work in gaming, fashion, nightlife, modeling, to those who practice law, our team is representative of what being a Las Vegas local is about. We live and understand the hard work that our local professionals put in everyday to service the millions of people that come to our city.

What we love about Las Vegas is its uniqueness. There is a certain excitement that is driven by the diversity and fusion of tourists from all over the world & our beloved locals. In a city where 9 to 5 jobs are not the norm, we are able to truly highlight our platform that is based on the idea of work flexibility and convenience. With Moda, anyone can be a model; they can come from any city, be working in a completely different field of work, and even use it when they are traveling. They just need to turn the available button on, and they can enjoy Las Vegas while also having the ability to make extra income.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?
We hope that the Las Vegas community can support us and give us an opportunity to make a positive difference in an industry that has at times been troubled with negative associations. We created Moda to be a solution for models, new and aspiring, to pursue their passions and for businesses to meet their needs efficiently and effectively.

What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?
Use discouragement as an opportunity – Sometimes, when we come up with an idea, we are attached to it so much that every criticism, every problem & setback that we encounter, becomes a discouragement.  Use that discouragement as an opportunity to strengthen your idea to be able to solve the problems that come along the way. Ultimately the finished product will be a reflection of all the set backs that you had to overcome to get there.

Tell us about your company:
Castoff is a private photo-messaging app where users can send multiple photos to friends and receive anonymous votes and private comments in real-time. We launched with our MVP late last year, we listened to our users and tweaked features in the app. We are proud to announce our first big update today!

Tell us about your team:
Our co founding team consists of myself, our CTO Alex Jacobson (I say he’s the tallest programmer in the world at 7’1″ haha), and his father Jake Jacobson. Alex and I are best friends from high school knowing each other for 10 years. Jake has over 40 years of programming experience while Alex taught himself code. My professional background is in digital advertising and social media. Alex and I both played high D1 basketball in the Pac-12. We have a unique startup team, work very well together, and are having a lot of fun along the way!

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?
We chose Las Vegas because we believe it’s the next big startup city right behind LA! The energy and excitement in the Vegas startup community is very encouraging! We are looking forward to meeting everyone we can and continue to grow this up and coming startup city.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?
The LV community has already supported and welcomed us before we even moved! The biggest help we could get is mentorship and exposure. We have a plan, but we are a team that constantly wants to learn and hear what other entrepreneurs went through so we can be the best entrepreneurs we can be. Exposure in the sense of getting known in the startup community, we are very excited about our mobile technology and hope many will find Castoff fun to use as well.

What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?
My best advice for startup entrepreneurs from my experience is to build the strongest team possible, but make sure you all can work well together and have your roles identified. Communication is another big one, our last small startup didn’t communicate enough and failed, this time around I over communicate so we’re all in the loop at all times. Lastly, have fun building your company! We only live once and if you’re going to go for it, go all out and always keep learning!

Tell us about your company
A social network made privately and exclusively for colligate and professional athletes. No Fans No Media just the growth of athletes. We will have a 24hour screening process to verify all users. We have a bevy of features but our most powerful features that tested through the roof for pro athletes and agencies, that is are Sponsorship Opportunity. A feature were companies willing to sponsor pro level athlete will be able to create a profile. through are algorithm we would suggest the best sponsors for our athletes instead of cluttering their inbox. Thus it will make the job easier for agents and we will have our athletes choose to represent a company that he/she is truly passionate about. How do we make money? We do not support any advertising at all. We charge each an athlete user a monthly fee. $25 a month for Colligate athletes and $100 a month for professional athletes. For our Sponsorship Opportunity users we have a contract for 3 months for $1,000. Also we will receive a 1% commission when every deal is finalized through the sponsor and athlete. In return the two users “Athlete & Sponsorship Opportunity” will receive a yearly free subscription but S&G will always obtain our 1% commission.

Ceo and founder: Julian “Jay” Rosado.
I have strong sales experience. I was sales director at a custom suit company called Customer Design Couture. I pushed the company to move towards athletes because they had released a dress code policy. I have made clients with the top world athletes such as LeBron James NBA, Floyd Mayweather Boxing, Danica Patrick NASCAR, Russell Wilson NFL, and Luton Shelton MLS and Aaron Rodgers NFL. Also to these athletes I have still good connection with and have received nothing but positive feedback from them.

COO: Andrew Coon
Andrew has a strong ethical background he currently is Mangers at Bank Of America. Andrew input is imperative to the overall success of S&G. His uncanny vision to what areas should we tackle first that are most important and less cost effective.

CTO: Elon Musk
Elon owns his own development company based out of Austin Texas. Elon made me take my vision and turned it into fruition. His background of being a former Colligate athlete for Syracuse University Football team makes his input be uncanny to any other developer. Why did you choose Las Vegas?
I chose this city because it is the most vastly going city in America. When the NHL agreed to have a franchise here and when they see the profits the other Sports leagues will fallow along such as NBA and NFL.

What do you Love about Las Vegas?
Similar to New York or LA, Las Vegas has the ability to bring people from all over the world together. To me this is the answer to ultimate wisdom because when a city brings people together from different backgrounds you will be able to view all different types of prospectives.

What can Las Vegas community do to help your community?
I suggest more Tech cocktails more suggestive viewings of Entrepreneurs, Artists, Developers etc. Las Vegas is at the cusp of innovation, if we were able to pull those innovators out of the city we would have a major financial improvement.

What is your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?
My advice is simple, it is a 3 letter word that I guarantee you have herd before. DONT GIVE UP, you must not ever give up. You must be willing to sacrifice everything you own for a dream. No matter what odds you face or how little money you have, if you become knowledgeable of your gifts you become knowledgeable of being resourceful. Also read Napoleons Hill book: Think and Grow Rich, it teaches what the mind can receive it can achieve.

Revive Brand Co. is a bag and accessories lifestyle brand based in Las Vegas. We develop, design and currently manufacture our products in the United States. Our products have expanded with the growth of the company since its inception in 2010.  Duffle bags, backpacks, tablet sleeves and much more are all a part of our diverse product offering. It takes an incredible amount of work and intensity to make each product because we want that attention to detail to come across to our customers.  We have our products in a few stores in town including LVCK and Urban Necessities in Downtown Container Park and Boulevard Mall respectively. Daily the Revive name is growing and more people are becoming a part of the #revivelife.

Jonathan Santos: CEO- The guy who had the dream and inspired this break into the bag industry.  Man of many talents most importantly managing the day to day tasks and the company vision of Revive.

Cesar Santos: R&D- We call Cesar the “Jacknife” because he can do so many different things like fix cars, computers, and it turns out he is sick with designing and hand creating prototypes and products for Revive.

Amanda Appling: Creative Director- Amanda has the eye for everything we do creatively including our product prints, fabrics, and details. Nothing gets past her and she makes sure of it.

Medin Gebrezgier: CMO- Constantly working on getting the name out for Revive in different ways. With one goal in mind; that every store carries the products and customers have something to be loyal to.

Keith Pilot: Brand Manager- Keith is our guy working on ways for us to improve and spread our brands message.

Why did you choose Las Vegas?  What do you love about Las Vegas?

We chose Las Vegas because it is home for all of us. Being natives we feel it is important to give back to our community and bring more business to our town.  This city being 24 hours is helpful and there is virtually unlimited room for growth.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?

Follow us on social media and take a good look at what we have to offer. When you are school shopping or searching for a gift, take a chance on us, we will not disappoint.  This is not a gimmick or a flash in the pan, Revive is here to stay and we want you to be a part of it. What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?

First things first; know what you want in the beginning. You can save yourself a lot of time and loss if you know what you want and work toward that goal. By doing that all of the pain you suffer and money you spend will be used towards that, instead of blowing in the wind.  Take full ownership of every detail in your business. It is yours and if something is wrong, it’s no one’s fault but your own. The faster you come to that realization the faster success will come. Finally, the only way someone can fail technically is if they stop. Apply this logic to building your business and it will pay dividends.

Tell us about your company.

eBrokerHouse is a transaction and offer management platform for real estate professionals. We serve every market in the country. Our platform allows agents to manage every back office aspect of their real estate transactions in one location. We eliminate the need for agents to use multiple software platforms for listing managment, CRM, showings, offers, tasks, notes, doc storage, etc.

Our most popular feature is online offer submission, which allows agents to receive offers on their listings online direct from the MLS. Listing agents can ensure complete offers are submitted to them and that they come over in a uniform format for easy organization and management. This feature also adds a lot of transparency to the offer process for all parties.

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?

The company was actually started in Ohio, but we chose to relocate the business to Las Vegas for a several reasons. One was the real estate market. Las Vegas has a very dynamic real estate market and some of the best real estate professionals in the country. Things tend to happen here before they hit the rest of the country. Being in Las Vegas and consulting with local agents allows us to identify industry trends early and adapt our offerings accordingly. Also, being close to most of the important industry events and conventions was a huge factor. Plus we love the weather.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?

Las Vegas has the highest percentage of agents that have adopted our platform than any other market. So we just hope local real estate professionals will continue to support our efforts and promote the benefits of our technology.

What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?

Don’t be afraid to pivot strategy and don’t wait to long to do so if things aren’t going as well as you had hoped. Many times it will be very clear that a strategy is not working like you had planned, but entrepreneurs can be stubborn and think if they just tweak this or that, things will change. You need to be honest with yourself and pivot sooner than later. There are several things we have done or are doing now that I waited quite awhile to pull the trigger on. I wish we would have done them sooner and we would be that much further ahead.

Vegas Startup Company Profile: Discotech

Tell us about your company.
Discotech is the “OpenTable for Nightlife”. Our free to download mobile app allows users to discover events, reserve bottle service, purchase tickets, and sign up for VIP guest lists at nightlife venues in different cities. Discotech is live on the iOS and Android app stores, and we currently service 5 cities – Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Washington D.C. Our mission is to bring transparency to the inefficient and outdated nightlife reservation space – you can think of it as a virtual promoter that can get you into any of the 80+ clubs that we currently work with. (Our partners include the biggest clubs in the U.S, including XS, Hakkasan, Marquee, Drais, etc.)

Furthermore, Discotech also offers a customer loyalty program that allows users to accrue points based on their spend and redeem them for rewards such as free bottles of champagne and liquor. The page most frequently viewed on our app is the Events page, which allows users to see which clubs are open and which DJs are playing by date.

The idea for Discotech came about from the customers perspective. After having one too many negative experiences dealing with traditional nightclub promoters (getting promised a certain price for a table, and then showing up at the venue and discovering that the same table is double the price), we decided to take matters into our own hand by leveraging technology to disrupt the space.

Discotech is currently angel funded, and has raised over $500K in our first round. We are in the process of raising our second round where we hope to raise 7 figures.

Tell us about your team.
Our team was founded by 4 UC Berkeley grads from the class of 2008 who have been friends since our Freshman year. After college, we all went our own direction, pursuing different careers, but we quit our jobs and came together to build Discotech. Two of the founders have a business background and handle the sales, operations, and marketing side of the business, and two of the founders are mobile developers.

The team developed Discotech in San Francisco, but moved to LA together to launch the product there. We have since moved to Las Vegas to expand our product. The team lives together and works together out of a house in Summerlin. (Think the show “Silicon Valley”, but in LA and Las Vegas) We used to do a lot of “market research” together at the clubs here in Las Vegas, but quickly burned out, and now spend our free time being nerds and playing board games like Settlers of Catan.

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?
We chose Las Vegas because it is by far the largest market for Nightlife in the United States, and we want to be as close as possible to our biggest customers / partners.

There is actually a lot that we love about Las Vegas. For one, we love that housing prices here are so affordable! We live in a great 4 bedroom house and are paying about half of what we were paying in LA, and a quarter of what we were paying in San Francisco. Secondly, there are a lot of great restaurants outside of the strip.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?
The Las Vegas community has already been very supportive and I have met a number of people from the Vegas Tech Community who have been great friends and mentors to me.

Our biggest challenge right now is actually in recruiting, we are looking to onboard at least 2 more developers to our team and its not an easy task!

What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?
I think its a good idea to get an experienced advisor who has been through the entire start up process to back your team. There are a lot of processes that you have to go through with every start up, and having someone who has been there to guide you through the different moves can save your team a lot of heart ache and effort. (For example, setting up a corporation, filling out the 83B / tax documents, Founders agreements, fund raising documents, etc).

A Vegas Tech CES 2015 Preview

One of the best benefits of living in Las Vegas is that we’re the conference capital of the world. If you have a niche that interests you, a conference for that niche sooner or later comes through Las Vegas. However, a few conferences call Las Vegas home permanently. The International CES event is one event that I can’t ever imagine leaving Las Vegas. Mostly because no where else is large enough to hold it. That’s a nice quiver in the cap of the Vegas Tech community.

If you haven’t registered for the event, it’s now $200 on-site registration. Next year, if you register before August, then it’s free for those in the industry (that’s everyone in Vegas Tech). However, even if you don’t want to drop the 200 bones on late registration there are a lot of local events with CES attendees that you can attend. Here’s a look at a few of them that are open to Vegas Tech community members.

Startup Debut – This media showcase is organized every year at CES and SXSW by Vegas’ own Michael Terpin and will be on January 4, 2015 from 7-10 PM. It includes dozens of startups and hundreds of top media. If you’re a startup company that wants to exhibit at the event, you better go and apply now. Michael usually gives Vegas Tech startup companies a 50% discount to be in the Vegas startups pavilion. If you’re press, you can sign up to attend the event as well. Michael and his team always do a good job at this event and have a variety of really interesting companies on display. Plus, it’s a much nicer environment to connect with them than the CES show floor which is insane.

Startup Night Downtown Vegas – This event is organized by Vegas’ own TechCocktail together with CES and Eureka Park (CES’ startup area). The event is happening on January 5th from 6-9 PM at the Gold Spike downtown. This should be a great event that brings together many in the Vegas Tech startup community together with startups from around the world. There are shuttle buses from the Venetian to downtown for those who need them. The event is free, but you must RSVP.

Tech Stars Mobility and Robotics Accelerator Info Sessions – If you have an interest in the TechStars accelerator programs, they are holding two meetups at Work in Progress: The Qualcomm Robotics Accelerator Info Session and The Techstars Mobility Accelerator driven by Detroit Info Session. Look like good sessions to learn more about the programs and network with other people interested in those programs.

CES PartyList and Wrap Party and Startup Grind Las Vegas – This event is also done by Michael Terpin and does a nice job book ending the CES event on Friday January 9th from 5-10 PM. It’s a combined CES Party List and Startup Grind Las Vegas event. It’s always a nice way to end the week at CES and talk with others about what you saw during the week. The event is free, but you need to RSVP.

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?

Several of the major global online marketing and electronics conventions are held in Las Vegas, which makes it a great place to have a corporate headquarters. Clients love to come to Las Vegas to visit the office and team members are given the access to great restaurants, shows, hotels, and nightlife as well as affordable housing within a reasonable commute. Also, we have access to everything from boating to skiing within a few hour (or less) drive.

Online marketing is all about creativity and fun. Las Vegas has a reputation that melds well with both those concepts. Marketing agencies were formerly solely located in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Increasingly, clients also look to Las Vegas for marketing creativity and execution. The city is becoming an incubator for small and medium sized marketing companies, especially those with innovative ideas.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?

This will enable quick profitability, guarantee cash flow, and ensure that the business model is viable. In addition, clients are generally the best motivation for evolution. Access to thriving new businesses drives innovation and Las Vegas has no shortage of unique ideas and opportunities.

Vegas Startup Company Profile: DevPoint Labs

The following is a short company profile interview with Ty Diamse, co-founder of DevPoint Labs. If you’d like your vegas startup company profiled, drop us a note on our contact us page.

Tell us about your company

DevPoint Labs is an 11 week coding and entrepreneur bootcamp. The best way to learn how to code starts by really committing yourself. Next it helps to attend an in-person classroom with other like-minded individuals getting your hands dirty and building that “muscle memory.” We teach anyone how to program in Ruby on Rails or iOS development so you can build your own idea, launch a new career, or simply become a technical founder. The program is eight hours a day, five days a week, for eleven weeks. We hold four quarters in the year and our next class begins February 3rd, 2014.

Tell us about your team

Nhi Doan and I (Ty Diamse) are the co-founders of DevPoint Labs. Since becoming friends in high school we have worked on multiple startups together that taught us each valuable lessons. Nhi has over nine years of experience in tech ranging from web development, systems, data and networking. He is currently wrapping up his Master’s in Information Systems Management at the U of U David Eccles School of Business. Entrepreneurship is my passion and I have studied it since my early teens. I am proud Alumni from The Starter League in Chicago where I learned how to code and developed most of my web programming expertise. I also have over five years experience in project management with the DoD.

Why did you choose Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?

Las Vegas was an easy decision because it’s close to our Salt Lake City campus and the VegasTech scene is vibrant and growing at an alarming rate. We believe our startup fits and compliments the VegasTech community very well. It’s no secret that Las Vegas is the nation’s playground which is a huge draw and that makes our code school that much more attractive to students around the world.

I love the culture and tight knit community in Vegas. The problem in Salt Lake City is they’re not very collaborative. We’ve seen the exact opposite in the VegasTech community. This is a huge benefit to any startup beginning or relocating to Vegas.

What can the Las Vegas community do to help your company?

We need help in three areas. 1) If you or you know someone interested in accelerating their coding education then tell them about us. 2) We’re always looking for junior to senior level mentors to help out. They generally meet once a week with our students to help with any questions. 3) If you’re a company that’s looking to hire any developers then please come talk to us. We’d love bring you on as a hiring partner.

What’s your best advice for startup entrepreneurs?

Get out and talk to your customers. You will learn a lot more then you think and save a lot of time and money.
